Get To Know Lexi | Featured Blogger Friday

My week has been utter, utter chaos with barely a second to spare. From house hunting, to saying goodbye to my Fiancée as he embarks on further fishing travels. We did in fact put an offer on a cottage in Cheshire and received the fabulous news that it’s ours. Safe to say I’m very excited and will be heading to my local Homesense as soon as possible!

This week we’re chatting to Lauren, (or Lexi as she’s more well known) from Driftinglexi, a book worm and beauty lover from the UK. She’s been with me on my blogging journey from pretty much day one. Lauren’s a fabulous writer and never fails to entice me with her content. So, let’s get to know her.

Why did you start blogging?
At first I wanted a place just to talk about, well, anything. At the start it was all very random and I didn’t really know what I was doing. Unsurprisingly, it didn’t end up lasting long like that; I think I stopped after two months. About a year and a half later I had gotten into writing book reviews and I liked the thought of having somewhere to put them so I relaunched my blog and it didn’t take long for me to get really into it and for my love of nails and makeup to emerge online too.

Describe your blog in five words.
Books, beauty and nail art!

What helps give you inspiration/motivation?
Other bloggers and YouTubers inspire me as well as everyday life. Every now and then I will post about recent happenings in my life whether this be more emotional, or events I’ve attended and trips I’ve taken. Everyone who reads my blog motivates me to keep writing, as well as the fact that I always write posts I’m excited to write as if you’re not interested in what you’re writing about, it’s not going to motivate you to write it.

How do you stay organised?
I love being organised! I have a calendar in a Word doc which I plan my posts in and I love this because I find it really useful having a monthly view of my posts going up. Separately, I write in a notebook the posts I want to write each week to make it more manageable and then I set days/evenings throughout the week to write the posts and take photos. I think people would describe me as being overly organised as I even have a schedule I try and stick to everyday from when I wake up to when I go to bed enabling me to be as productive as possible. Sometimes I seem to have more fun planning my day than I do completing some of the tasks I set myself, haha!

What type of posts do you enjoy reading the most?
I think my favourite posts to read are probably favourites and basically anything lipstick related! I also love when people talk about new products, so I can keep an eye out for them! I basically just love people telling me what things I should buy.

How often can we expect posts from you?
Approximately four, maybe five times a week. Since I like to post about books, nails and beauty there will always be at least one post for each of those areas every week.

What’s your favourite post to date?
This is a tricky one, but I always enjoy writing the more travel/days out type posts. I love looking through all the pictures I’ve taken and choosing which ones I want in the post and then being able to write about them as I get to relive the experience. It also means that I can look back on the post in the future and relive it again. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve already looked back on my post of Rome and for that reason it is probably my favourite!

What have you learnt in your time as a blogger?
One thing I definitely feel like I’ve learnt is how to organise my time better! I’ve also learnt so much more about makeup and so much about people. When I started blogging I remember saying that I wanted my space to be somewhere I can share thoughts that I might be embarrassed to otherwise say to people, but blogging has taught me not to be. It has really increased my confidence and I don’t think there’s a lot anymore that you’ll find on my blog that I wouldn’t comfortably share in real life, to my best friends at the very least anyway.

What advice would you give to someone starting a blog?
If you want to start a blog and have no idea what to write about, always turn to what interests you. And don’t feel that you have to restrict yourself to one topic. Write about what you love. I know people say that a lot, but it is so true. I stopped blogging after my first two months because I wrote about random topics I wasn’t interested in, I just thought they would be good discussion points. I have been writing about what I love for a year now and not once have I considered giving it up. Also, posts are so much more enjoyable to read if you can see that the blogger is passionate about their topic.

What’s your favourite thing about blogging?
One of my favourite things about blogging is the diversity of it. It is a brilliant way for people to express themselves and share, well anything, tips and tricks, recipes, their travels etc. plus you get to interact with a large range of people through it.

Which country are you from?

How do you like to spend your weekends?
Reading! I always try and save my weekends for reading and do blogging through the week as it helps balance the two out a bit. However, I do love the odd night out with my best friends every now and then!

What are the top three things on your bucket list?
I don’t necessarily have any of it in a particular order, but three things that spring to mind right now which I most look forward to doing one day are:

  1. Travelling around Italy.
  2. Visiting Austria and/or India since different parts of my family stem back to those countries.
  3. Basically go see all the musicals in the West End, haha.

What do you do to relax?
Read, blog, have a bath with a LUSH bath bomb and plan things. Planning always relaxes me as I like knowing what’s going on and being organised. Depending on how stressful a day I’ve had, a cocktail or two may have to be added to this list!
