Get To Know Jessica | Featured Blogger Friday
Happy Friday! Thank you sooo much for watching my latest YouTube video ‘Biggest Haul Ever‘, I feel I don’t need to explain this one much further? Other than this quite literally was the biggest haul I’ve ever bought, let alone filmed. If you’re like me and your guilty pleasure is watching people waffle on about their purchases, give it a watch, you’ll love it.
This week I’m so thrilled to introduce the ever so lovely Jessica Riga, an 18 year old Journalism student from across the other side of the world in Australia. Her blog orientates around all things beauty, fashion and lifestyle; from bath bombs, to eyeshadows, to TV shows. So, let’s get to know Jessica…
Why did you start blogging?
I started blogging a year or so after getting really interested in makeup and all things beauty. It’s something I always talk about with friends and my sister, but after a while I realised that I wanted to combine my love for writing, flatlaying and makeup into one handy online space, and the idea for my blog was born!
Describe your blog in five words.
Positive, relatable, genuine, affordable and feminine!
What helps give you inspiration/motivation?
I find inspiration everywhere, from other people’s blogs to the weather to what’s inside my makeup bag. If I’m really excited about a post the motivation to write it up will be there, but if I’m not sold on an idea yet then I don’t push it and place it on the back burner as it might evolve into something better in the future.
How do you stay organised?
Planners are amazing at keeping me on track! I used one every year all throughout high school and now I’m using one for university and my blog, and it’s been the biggest help at organising all my blog post ideas and when I’m going to produce them. Creating lists and ticking things off throughout the day is also so satisfying!
What type of posts do you enjoy reading the most?
At the moment I’m really into “essential” beauty product type posts, like “my everyday essential makeup products” or “my Summer makeup essentials” because they are usually concise reviews on multiple products, and it’s interesting to read about what different people think are “essential” items.
How often can we expect posts from you?
I post every Monday, Wednesday and Friday!
What’s your favourite post to date? (Please also supply a direct link to this post)
I think my ‘Zoella Beauty Haul‘ is one of my favourite posts I’ve published so far. I’m a massive fan of Zoe and was lucky enough to get her beauty account to notice and regram my flatlays of her products not once but twice! The time I published this post was also when her @zoellabeauty Instagram account followed me, so the fact that little old me and my blog got noticed by one of my idols makes that post very special to me!
What have you learnt in your time as a blogger?
I still feel like a newbie to blogging as I only started last December, but I have already learnt so much! I’ve learnt that the blogging community is very welcoming and inter-active, also that sometimes a post you’re really excited for won’t be as popular as you originally thought, and that’s okay. I’ve also learnt that a post you’re not expecting to blow up with popularity will, and that’s amazing as well!
What advice would you give to someone starting a blog?
Go for it! It’s so fun and fulfilling! But also don’t get discouraged if your blog doesn’t blow up over night, it won’t, but being consistent with your content and blogging schedule will keep you motivated and people will start taking notice!
What’s your favourite thing about blogging?
I think the freedom and ability to control everything is wonderful (my perfectionist side is coming out here!). I can decide what today’s post will be about, what pictures will go up, what words I’ll say about something. No two blogs are the same because everyone is different, so being allowed to get creative about something you’re really interested in is amazing.
Which country are you from?
I’m from Australia!
How do you like to spend your weekends?
I love shopping with my mum and sister, catching up on TV shows or YouTube videos, going to the movies, or just chilling out at home with my family.
What are the top three things on your bucket list?
I don’t have a proper bucket list but I really want to travel more! I think when I’m a little bit older I’ll definitely make plans. I think something like attending a fashion show during London or New York Fashion Week would be on my list, along with one day owning a cat.
What do you do to relax?
I’m a real introvert, so chilling out at home is my ultimate form of relaxation. I’m very easy to please, so give me a warm bed and a (strong) wifi connection and I’ll be good to go.
