Oily gals listen up, I’ve found a cure. I stumbled across this powder from NYX Cosmetics under ‘recommended products’ somewhere unknown on the Boots website, and people are absolutely raving about it. This little pot of goodness has become my new favourite, and has wiped my Smashbox powder well and truly out of the picture. Shall we find out why I love it so much?

what-you-need-to-know

the-promise
“A miracle in a jar! This 100% pure mineral silica finishing powder is perfect for setting your foundation or wearing alone. The luminous white powder goes on neutral and works on all skin tones. It leaves your skin looking radiant and luminous. Best if used with the NYX B24 Kabuki Brush. Use lightly…a little goes a long way.” – Boots.com

how-to-use
Apply alone with a powder brush all over the face or on top of foundation to keep it in place all day long.

what's-all-the-fuss-about
My number one must-have beauty product was the Smashbox Photo Set Finishing Powder, however I grabbed the NYX version when I realised they’re pretty much exactly the same thing, plus it’s £11 cheaper! Both powders contain Silica, which is a mineral. Debra Coleman-Nally, Director of Research and Development for Maybelline New York says, “Silica is very, very light, it’s very airy, and it feels like nothing. But it has the ability to absorb several times its weight and size. And in addition to that, it does not leave a white cast on skin.”

If you’re an oily monster like me, you’ll especially love this product. The silica literally soaks up any access oil and prevents it from creeping back through during the day. I will warn you that if you tend to be slightly more heavy handed with makeup application, this product can cause skin to become too dry. I also found that if the flash went off in photographs, my face looked like Caspar the ghost – not a good look. So just be wary that a little goes such a long way, and there’s no need to go overboard (a money saving tip that I love!).

This powder has become an every day essential. I apply it straight after I’ve finished with creams such as liquid foundation and concealer, and that’s literally it – super easy. I also like to “bake” using this product, often under the eyes and along the jaw line to sharpen up any contour or bronzer I have on.

in-a-nutshell
+ Very lightweight

+ Affordable
+ Keeps skin matte all day long
+ Suitable for all skin types and shades
+ Suitable for the ‘baking’ method

final-verdict
9/10. A wonderful product that really works, shame about the flash issue!
