The Best Concealer Ever? | Review

You must know by now how much I love the Mac Pro Longwear Concealer (read my full review here). Its full coverage, creamy formula works like an absolute dream. But, it’s a high end product, therefore it comes with a hefty price tag. So, i’ve been on a mission to find a high street alternative that is as good. It proved to be quite a challenge, and after many purchases that were huge disappointments, I almost accepted the fact that I wouldn’t find one. However, my last resort was the Collection Lasting Perfection Concealer. And, this concealer has forced my MAC Pro Longwear to take a back seat in my collection. It’s clear how much it’s been loved, apologies for the shabby packaging.

the-promise“Conceals imperfections and blemishes for up to 16 hours. Water resistant and transfer proof. Multiple award-winning.” – Collectioncosmetics.co.uk

how-to-useI like to apply the concealer in the way I would use any other, under my eyes with my fingers in a triangular shape and then blended out with the Real Techniques Setting Brush or a damp Beauty Blender. I also enjoy using this as an eye primer and then set with powder.

what's-all-the-fuss-aboutThe main things I look for in a concealer are coverage, colour match and longevity. This multiple award-winning concealer (yes, apparently concealers can win awards) is available in four classic shades including Fair, Cool Medium, Warm Medium and Dark. Personally, I wish they did more shades because unless you’re the most common skintones, you are probably going to struggle to find the perfect match.

Let’s get the negativity out of the way first. The packaging is pretty appalling. It’s flimsy and the tube tends to clog up at the top, so when you screw the top back on, some product over spills and it becomes quite messy. I would leave this one out of your handbag! Not forgetting of course that the black lettering rubs off very easily. However, i’ve always said that if the products good, I don’t care about the packaging. This concealer is so cheap that it’s almost expected.

Lasting Perfection doesn’t smudge or worse, vanish. It truly lasts for up to sixteen hours and is very full coverage. It’s amazing at covering dark circles and areas prone to redness. It applies best with a synthetic hair brush or a damp beauty blender. Using the applicator it comes with gets messy and it’s very tricky to blend, let alone also being incredibly unhygienic, so I tend to avoid that.

Had a day in the rain? Cried because you’re so happy it’s Friday? It doesn’t matter! This concealer is water-resistant and does not budge. I’ve never had to top it up throughout the day, which of course everyone loves.

final-verdict

9/10. The perfect concealer for me. It works like a high end concealer but the cheap packing just lets it down.

  1. This is currently in my basket online!!! Now I am going to have to try! I LOVE MAC Prolong Wear. But it’s always awesome when you can find something for cheaper that can perform just as good!! Thanks for the thorough review Clarina!

It is isn’t it! 🙂 Glad you like it as much as I do. Xx

  3. Is this better than maybelline fit me concealer? Btw love your blog 😉

    1. Clarina says:

Thank you! I’d say yes, only because it’s slightly cheaper and suited my skin type more. The Maybelline settled into my fine lines around my eyes and it was slightly orangey on the skin! Lasting Perfection is the perfect shade.

      1. Thank you so much for taking your time to reply me 🙂

  6. I am desperately in need of a good concealer as my old one is running out and this one looks like a perfect answer for that.

    1. Clarina says:

Yes! You should try this one. It’s so cheap and i’ve not had any problems with it (other than the flimsy packaging)

      1. Just now grabbed it Claire and I can’t wait to use it.

I got this concealer in a swap and unfortunately requested a colour too dark for me, but it is quite a pigmented concealer! The main con for me is that it’s quite dry looking under the eyes, so I tend to reserve this more for concealing other areas of the face. It’s great they offer such an affordable, good quality concealer option!

    1. Clarina says:

They really should release more shades because I bet so many people struggle with colour match. I’ve not had any problems with dryness under the eyes, perhaps because my skin type is oily? I don’t know, but that’s a shame for you! I was very surprised by the quality from a high street product 🙂

Great Review! I wanted to know are stick concealers better or liquid concealers? A beginner here, so wanted to ask.
    Thanks!

    1. Clarina says:

Thank you! A stick concealer is suited more towards people with dryer or normal skin types. The sticks tend to be a lot thicker in consistency which I personally don’t like because I am oily and they don’t seem to stay put throughout the day.

Liquids are great because the coverage is buildable and they are available in satin, shimmer and matte finishes, whereas sticks are pretty much always matte. They also don’t tend to cake up as much. So, it’s up to you. Give them both a go! Maybe have a swatch of a couple and see 🙂

      Hope that helps you x

Good! 🙂 Glad I could help.

  10. Gosh I really need to try this. I swear by Mac ProLongwear Concealer in NC15. The minute it runs out, I literally run to get the next one – but it is expensive.Great review & I will definitely be trying this xx

    1. Clarina says:

Yes! There was a time where I felt like I was just throwing money at MAC for the Pro Longwear, now i’m relieved I have an alternative that is as good. I hope you love it just as much 🙂 Xx

  11. I have yet to try this concealer so definitely need to pick it up as I have yet to find my holy grail concealer! Great review X
